As the current year comes to a close...

Tonight as the current year comes to a close, and the New Year waits at the edge of darkness may these words from To Write Love On Her Arms offer you hope for a new day…

twloha:
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.

The ball drops and fireworks. Resolutions are made.
People scream and people kiss and is it possible to change?
Is it really truly possible to leave the past behind?

Welcome to Midnight.

Another year comes to a close. Another year begins.
With a moment...

Aerial Silk

Jewella Deville
Fall is finally here in SoCal.   It's cold now, but just a month ago it was still summer.   October found me at the Roller Derby with my girl, and teammates watching a really good 'Screamage'.  Here are some photos of the event...

Derby is a very fun and exciting sport.  Challenging and exhausting to learn.  This scrimmage I sat out and played photographer.

Come the spring though I plan on joining my fellow teammates out there on the track.    This is why I have taken up Aerial Silk acrobatics to build strength.  So much fun too!  Here I am sliding down the ribbons gracefully.

This is harder than it looks.  I of course am a natural at it.  I know I make it look easy...

and practicing in a  very large pointe shoe...

I think this must be the worlds largest pair of pointe shioes, they had them on display... so I posed for a picture.

I know.  It's no derby skating.   But it's been a whole lot of fun!

It's good to be me!

Ahhhh on my way to one of my adventures.

Hello fans, followers and my audience.  Ahhh it's good to be me.  I hope you feel the same way about being you.
It's good to be oneself.  To enjoy life and freedom.  To participate in all the goodness around us.  Enjoy the holidays and have some fun.

And I love that my beloved beach is mine again.  All mine.  To walk on, to dance on, to sit and think on without all the summer interlopers. I can write in the sand and no one will walk over my words.  I can talk to my Gramsy, whom I love, toss her a letter and some flowers without worrying about someone messing with them.

And Halloween.  I love Halloween.  I get to dress up and eat candy.  I can be whatever I want to be, and dress as crazy as I like and it's totally cool!

Then there are the fun events.  This is where you'll find me this weekend.  Cheering the Jewella Deville and the Vampires on, and of course the Catrinas too.  Isn't this makeup cool?!!!  I get to do some fun makeup!  And wear my fun derby outfits, especially the fun socks over my fishnet stockings.  And the cute tutu and the vampire makeup.  Fun, fun, fun!

I know it sounds like all I do is fun and games.   But here's  my latest adventure....

That's right, I'm teaching yet another one to drive.  Some people think this may not be the best idea, since I'm prone to distraction (ooooh shiny!!)

But I get to sit back and relax, paint my nails, while being chauffered around town.   Gotta love it.
Just keep driving, just keep driving.....

And isn't he handsome?  You should see the stares we get.

It's a fun fun life.  Wait til you see what I get to do for next time.
a quick sketch of my friend Cindycat.

Just a picture I like of Spongebob
from his facebook page.

Hope you are having much fun of your own, and celebrating your own adventures.

Art Gallery Opening

My good friend Elizabeth invited me to an exhibit opening in Brea last night.  Of course I jumped at the chance for a night out, and for hanging out with her.  She's a busy mom of three who has lots of responsibilities.

Here we are chatting on the way to the exhibit.

She picked me up and off we went to the gallery her friend works at to see the opening of a juried Watercolor exhibit.

We had some good conversation and catching up on the way there.  I got to be the navigator.

It was so nice walking in to this lovely gallery.  There were artists aplenty, a lot of the exhibiting artists were in attendance.  We even spoke with a few about their work.  Elizabeth introduced me to everyone as her 'artist friend'.  That was nice.

Here we are checking out the display in the entrance.  They offer workshops, there is a giftshop and of course have regular exhibits.

We walked around  and  looked at wonderful watercolor paintings.  I am always impressed by the technique and skill required to paint with watercolors.  Here is a great quote by Georgia O'Keefe above some photo realistic paintings of a couple of water scenes.  The quote reads " I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way- things I had no words for".  One of my favorite art quotes.
This is a closeup of the boats watercolor so you can appreciate the quality of it.  It was amazing.

This painting reminded me of one of my girls.

Every now and then we'd stop and discuss the art and chat with the artist.  Choosing our favorites and discussing what we liked and didn't like about certain techniques.  It's interesting the different things one's eye picks up- how it varies from person to person.  In one piece of some beautiful Chinese dancers we saw my eye was immediately drawn to the dancer in white with red flowers.  However hers were drawn to a dancer in beige with blue swirls.  She hadn't even noticed the dancer that drew my eye.
This was one of Elizabeth's favorites

After the exhibit she treated me to a tasty dinner at a local restaurant which shall remain nameless.

We ate, we drank, chatted and caught up.  It has been a while since I've seen her.   Once again I was reminded how much I love art.  How I love paint and paper.  And I wanted to run home and paint something.

Got my Roller Derby on!

Last night was the first meeting for the South County Roller Derby Bootcamp.  It looks like so much fun!  See....

that's my girl zooming by in blue with the pink helmet.

and I'm already perfectly dressed.

They were impressed with her skills.
And she's tough.  She takes after me...

Join us, if you're up to it.  It'll be lots of fun!  Lil E was asked about interest in becoming a ref or something too.  Fun, fun, fun!

May all your days be filled with adventure and your wildest dreams come true!

Waiting on the Next Adventure

It's the end of summer already.  And my next adventure awaits.  Here I am watching Lil E putting The Pink Pearl's  Princess stove back together after a thorough cleaning.

He also fixed the lights, and did something with the wires that attach to the truck.

There's still a lot more to be done to make her seaworthy of my glamping style.  But we're getting there.  I'll keep you posted!  Hope you all had a lovely summer and your hair styles and make up made it through the heat and humidity.

love,
Lil Gee

Hello again

Hello my lovely friends!  I am afraid after checking my facebook page, that some of you have forgotten about me.  To fix this I thought I'd blog and tell you what's up with me.

It's been real busy around here, so I have not had a chance to get out and play lately.  What with fixing up the Pink Pearl and all.  All of our spare time is going there.  I want to go camping!  Or glamping is more my style....  Just wait til she's done.  She'll be so cute!  And so me!  We're going to have some good times Lil E and I glamping.

So, in the downtime I have been keeping myself busy by reading, and chatting with friends, visiting with my sister,  my niece,  and my big brother Greggy, you know- fun stuff.   I've been reading some memoirs by the famous Cindy Zelman.  Both online,  at her blog The Early Draft, and another piece she had published plus her creative thesis?  Is that what it's called?  I can't remember.

Lil E does most of the work around here, so I can be free to do what I need to do.  He's started a page for the renovations he's doing on the Pearl.  Here is the link:  http://repairingyesterdaystrailers.yuku.com/topic/2425/1958-Oasis-Seventeen-Six

I did run into Gustav the other day.  I do see him occasionally around town.  He is doing well.  He went to the Fair too, but I missed him.

That's about it.  Oh, and I've been shopping.  A lot of shopping.  Trying to find just the perfect vintage things for the Pink Pearl.  That takes a lot of time you know.  Hopefully I will get out soon again to do some more interesting stuff.  But for now it's work, work, work.   Thanks for keeping up with me!

 Love,
 Lil Gee

Find Your Adventure

The Geenie's Lamp is brimming with life, love, and art these days.   If you've been keeping up with me you know why.  So here are a couple of updates.  My Sis and niece are still here, and will be with me through mid August. Our time is drawing to a close, but we are making the most of it.

An update on the farmyard. The ducks and chickens are all grown up now, and should be laying soon.  More on that to come.

I have new things listed in my Etsy shop.  Check the sidebar or click on the link to see them.  Finished a few more things today.  Not the least of which is my new love...  so, did you catch it?  My new passion/obsession/fixation...  I put a hint in my last post....    Here's my latest piece for the big reveal....

This is it!  I have found Vintage Travel Trailers and I really, really want one.  This or a Gypsy Wagon.  I can imagine myself now parked at the beach with my trailer and my art supplies...  Or camping with my family, and my art supplies....  or.... the possibilities are endless really.  When I first discovered the "Gypsy Wagon" about a year ago I imagined one built in our backyard for my studio.  That is still a dream of mine, but this.  Oh this. This is gonna happen.  Then the Geenies Lamp studio will be on the road...

and now for something I finished
and she was Loved

and of course, as usually happens, I love her so much I don't want to list her.  Thinking about offering prints.  That's all for now...  Will update you on my Vintage RV procurement as unfolds.  Suzi Blu once talked about a dream of an artist colony of traveling Gypsy Wagons.  That would be a dream.....
